The Role & Key Responsibilities

From your first day with us you will be part of a policing family making a real difference.
It is our mission to identify and protect vulnerable people, prevent and respond to harm and keep people safe.

Working in Bluestone, the teams are made up of Detective Inspectors, Detective Sergeants, Detective Contsables, SOLO's and Investigating Officers. You will work closely as a team to ensure that victims are thoroughly supported from when they first report their crime, to when it concludes.

In this role -
You will manage a dynamic, complex caseload of rape and serious sexual offence victims. You will continually reassess and respond to risk and vulnerability.
You will build and maintain trust and rapport with victims to ensure that their immediate physical, psychological and welfare needs are met.
You will provide trauma-informed emotional support and guidance.
You will keep accurate records of all your interactions with victims and ensure you are compliant under the Victims Code.
You may be asked to complete early evidence gathering, such as taking Sexual Offence Logs, arranging and attending the Sexual Assault Referral Centre (SARC) and seize exhibits.
You will also be responsible for coordinating and completing victims evidence such as Video Recorded Interviews.
You will work closely with partnership agencies such as RASASC and Outreach to ensure that victims recieve additional suport and care.
You will be responsible for communicating end of investigation outcomes with OIC's, ensuring the rationale is explained clearly and the victim is supported.
You will support victims when they attend court to give evidence.

Skills & Experience

The post holder will need to be educated to A level or equivalent standard and also have a full UK driving licence.

They will also need to hold or work towards the successful completion of the Professionalising Investigation Programme (PIP 1), which includes a 9 week course, and a portfolio evidencing their work to achieve the acreditation.

They will have completed or have the ability to successfully complete the PIP2 victim and witness interviewing course and following this the TIER 3 advanced interviewing course and all other relevant training courses.

Ideally the postholder will have some experience of dealing with rape and sexual violence offences, or is willing to attend intensive training to learn the required skills.

They will need to be able to operate effectively in environments involving distressing material and complex safeguarding risks.

They will need excellent interpersonal skills, including the ability to deliver sensitive messages clearly.

They should have a confident and flexible approach with the ability to work without direct supervision, whilst working under pressure and ensuring that they prioritise work based on risk.

They should have excellent communication skills with the ability to listen, empathise and provide support.

They should also have experience in crisis management, with the ability to handle and manage situations of heightened risk, stress and emotional turmoil.
